3 Books and 3 Blocks

I'm back...I know you're surprised because this doesn't happen often...I'll try to be better. I got my Designer BOM block and my Simply Sophisticated blocks done today. This is month 10 of Simply Sophisticated...I can't wait to see what The Fat Quarter Shop has in store for us when it comes time to put this together...we're almost done!

Part of what I love about our week at the beach is that we have time to read and read and read. The first book I read at the beach was The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Society...what a wonderful book...very well written...a story that I really had no idea had happened...very enlightening. It wasn't mom's favorite...I really liked it. Not particularly light beach reading but a very good read.

The second book was Summer on Blossom Street ...this was more of a beach read...very light, very quick read (I finished it in a little over a day) and very good. I really enjoyed it. As mom said...it was a very nice story.

The third book I finished was The Help...this was by far the best book I've read in a long time. It was one of those books that I was very sad when it was finished. Oh I didn't want it to be finished. Again not a light beach read, but an outstanding book. Makes you think!

Great Week at the Beach!

Mom and I had the absolute best week at the beach last week...unlike last year we had perfect weather all week long. We had 2 mornings where it spit rain for about 30 seconds and that was it...sunny, breezy...just perfect. As usual mom and I read and read and read some more...This is the best I could do getting a picture of mom...but you get the idea! I told her she looks like Wilson on "Home Improvement".
We had 6 evenings of gorgeous sunsets...here's one of the best...

While at the beach I got bindings on 2 quilts...stitching in the evening and I was done in no time...this red, cream and blue quilt is my new favorite quilt of all time...it's made with Prairie Paisley by Minnick and Simpson...Sorry for the bend in the top...my quilt holder can't go up the stairs any more...he has his appointment at the hospital for his knee replacement on September 1st...the quilt is so wide my arms just don't have a big enough span...and it's so long that unless I went up the stairs halfway we couldn't get the whole quilt in the picture. This quilt was inspired by Darlene of Quilting Daze...She posted a picture of her quilt and I just loved it...thank you Darlene for all your help with this one...I love it and it's staying at our house...we're keeping it!

This one is the Monthly Mini from Temecula Quilt Company...it was so much fun to do...and I am crazy about the fabric choices that they made. Gosh I love that shop! Wish I lived closer!

And while I was at the beach I got an e-mail from Sherri at A Quilting Life letting me know that I won part of her big giveaway...OMG, am I ever a lucky girl...I won this wonderful bag.And as if this bag isn't wonderful enough, it has one of Sherri's very specially made covered buttons...Did I mention how very lucky I feel! Thank you Sherri!

I'll be back tomorrow...I hope to have my Simply Sophisticated block and my Designer BOM block done and I want to share the books that I read...until tomorrow...

July Charming Girls Quilt Club-DONE

Oh I am so excited...I can hardly sit still here. I finished my July Charming Girls Quilt Club UFO today!!! YIPPEE! I'm really pleased with how it turned out...it's as cute as I thought it would be and it already has a home. It's going to my friend Mary...she just had her 4th grandchild...I made her a quilt with the first one but now I think she needs another...room for all the little ones.

A huge thank you to Kelly for organizing the club...this quilt has been hanging around for a long time...with a little motivation I finished it in a few days. Thank you Kelly! Now to decide what my project will be for August.

Tomorrow I leave for for the beach with Mom for the week. I'm taking my laptop so I'll be checking in...have a great week!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy, Happy 4th of July!

Charming Girl's Quilt Club

I happened upon Kelly's blog yesterday morning through The Quilt Buddy and was instantly thrilled. She has started this club, for all of us who are working on UFO's or projects that we want to get done. Click the logo in my sidebar and see what Kelly has in store for us...it's going to be great fun and someone will win a prize each month!

I went upstairs and found the project that I'm going to finish this month. I really like that Kelly made the rules that you can call it finished when you have the top done and ready to send to the quilter (for all of us that don't quilt for ourselves)...oh I'm very excited.

Here's my July project...I started this a good while ago and then lots of things got pushed ahead of it...well, now it's going to get done...Thank you Kelly!

Hope everyone had an awesome Independence Day! Have a great rest of the weekend!

Fun Family Time

I don't think there's anything better than fun family time. We spent last weekend in Birmingham for Camden's baptism. I had every intention of posting about this before now, but I just don't know where the week went. We went up last Friday and came home on Monday. We did decide that the trip is too long, 9 hours each way, to do that quickly. We need to have more time before we turn around and come home. We had a great time...mom was in heaven...she spent many hours sitting in the chair holding Camden, awake and asleep, she never wanted to put her down. It was just wonderful...she talked to her for hours, rocked her, watched her sleep...she couldn't have been happier. She also got lots of Hampton hugs...Happy, Happy Nana!

I always take something for Hampton...this time I took Nedra's suggestion and took him a bowling set. OMG, he had more fun with that, he loved setting the pins back up as much as knocking them down. Thanks Nedra...it was a perfect gift.

Sunday was Camden's baptism...what a very special day it was. Camden was so happy through the whole service. Katie's mom made Camden's dress and it was just beautiful. Again, mom was on top of the world through the service. Her second great grandchild being baptized...4 generations together...it was a great day. I had some great Hampton time too...
