A very big thank you to Nicole for getting me hooked on this quilt. It was tons of fun to do...Spice Cake pattern by Mary's Cottage Quilts and the fabric is Hopscotch by Chloe's Closet and MODA. Thank you Nicole...you were my inspiration!
I had my trusty quilt holder, AKA DH Andy, standing on the front porch holding up this quilt. It's really pretty big, so I asked him to stand on his tip toes, which is not so easy for him...he has a very bad knee that is going to be replaced in September...He did just what I wanted him to do so I said, "You're just wonderful"...he thought I was done when I said that and started to fold it up...
I told him I was going to have to fire him as the official quilt holder in our house...he seemed to like that idea way too much...so I quickly told him I was just kidding.
Nicole also mentioned the other day on her blog, how nice it is to be a quilter and to have quilts waiting for an owner. I had made this just because I loved it when I saw it and didn't have a plan for it. Well, last week we got an e-mail from a gal that Andy used to work with, telling us that another gal that he worked with had found out on Wednesday after an MRI that she had a large tumor in the frontal lobe of her brain...Thursday to the neurosurgeon...surgery on Monday. She's doing well, the surgeon is confident that he got it all, he expressed that he felt it was a benign tumor, they'll get the report tomorrow. She has a long road ahead of her, lots of therapy...so this quilt is going to her. It's full of hugs and good thoughts...I love being a quilter!

Lovely quilt. Sounds like you found a good home for it.
Seems that you finished up this pretty quilt at just the right time. It is fresh, cheerful and indeed snuggly looking. Such a sweet thing to do for a friend who I suspect will be very appreciative. Prayers for a good outcome for this gal.

This lovely, cheerful quilt will make a perfect gift. I am sure it will bring much comfort.
Your story about your husband is so funny....not minding if he gets fired from those kind of jobs sounds familiar!!
Any your kindness is so hearwarming!! What a special gift you have!!
What a wonderful gesture giving your quilt to someone who will love it. Looks like your reading Nicole's blog was like an omen. So very generous of you!
Carol,
Totally cosmic how this all came together. You and Nicole generated some good vibes. You know the receiver of this sweet, healing quilt will likely feel her spirits soar with your work in hand. Imagine...
I think things seldom happen by chance. The quilt you made was always going to your friend--- you just didn't realize it until the phone call. that's just the kind of person you are....a quilter... and that's what quilters do... You're a neat lady...
I had seen the quilt that Nicole made and admired it. You got that whipped right together. Giving it to someone in need is very special!
What a great quilt! I'm going to have to go look for Nicole's...and I definitely want to make this...I have the pattern and just haven't decided on fabric!
So pretty, I love it!
A beautiful quilt indeed, and it sounds like you found the perfect friend to give it to. I hope she recovers quickly.
Just perfect! A nice happy quilt to make her feel better!
Its a lovely cheerful quilt and so sweet of you to give it to someone that could use a hug, I am sure.
Carol you are always, always so generous to give away these pretty quilts. She will be so touched that you have done something so thoughtful. I'm still in CA...no need to reply. :-) Hugs!!
That is a beautiful quilt.....I especially love the border fabric. It will be so comforting to the person that Andy used to work with. I had to chuckle because my quilt holder is my husband and is the same way. I wouldn't trade him for the world though!
Cathy
You are amazing. Your Spice Cake quilt is terrific and I think it absolutely should go to that young woman. Hoping for a positive prognosis.
The quilt is wonderful and I know the recipient will love it! To me, this is why alot of us make quilts. They give such comfort to people that need it and it makes my heart sing to know that the quilt will be loved.
I love that pattern, and I just happen to own it. Hooray - I can make it too! It's very pretty, Carol! Mr. Andy did a great job as Quilt Holder.
I'm so glad you had a quilt ready for someone in need. It makes you feel wonderful to give some comfort to someone else, doesn't it?
