May Schnibble and a Jelly Roll

This was such a fun Schnibble month...it was our choice and with Carrie's new book Schnibbles Times 2 I was like a kid in a candy store trying to make my choice. I settled on Imagine and I just love it. I used Civil War Crossing by Barbara Brackman for MODA...it looks old and that makes me very happy. Can't wait to get it quilted and get it in the washer and the dryer so it gets all crinkly and squishy. It will be fun to see what the girls have up their sleeves for us in June.

Here's my Jelly Roll Sampler block for this week...I think this is my favorite block so far.

I spent a good bit of time yesterday cleaning and organizing in my sewing room...I found some more destashing goodies. I'll be back!

Cover Girl...Late, but Here

Yes, that's me...a Cover Girl...but as usual I'm a bit behind...I had every intention of posting my picture of the Ashcombe quilt that I sewed for Carrie of Miss Rosie fame, but I was in Birmingham visiting Hampton and Camden and I couldn't get on their network...both Josh and Katie tried and tried but we just couldn't get it. They have recently switched over to U Verse and for some reason it just wouldn't let my little computer in. I could have done my post on Josh's computer, but there wouldn't have been a picture...and that just wouldn't have been any fun...OK, I'll stop blabbering and show you the picture. I had an absolute blast doing this quilt for Carrie...Carrie is such a clever girl...this pattern gives the directions to do the quilt with a layer cake like Darlene's and with Honey Buns like mine. As always, Carrie's directions were wonderful...you are going to love this pattern!

I spent some time in my storage room today going through yardage and fat quarters...I'll be back tomorrow with some "destashing" (that's Darlene's blog title and I loved it...thanks Darlene!)

I've Had to Keep My Hands Busy

First and foremost, thank you to all my friends in Blogland...you got me through a very tough week. Thank you for your comments, e-mails and phone calls. You will never know how much your friendship and support meant to me.

Since Mr. Brown Quilts was out of town last week, and I had way too much time to think...I had to keep my hands busy, therefore keeping my mind busy. I was thrilled that the final block of the Designer BOM arrived and since I had the setting all ready to go...I spent a day finishing it up. I just love it. I had to wait until Mr. Brown Quilts aka Mr. Quilt Holder was here to hold it up for me. It's really too big for one person to hold and we had a pretty good breeze blowing. I think you can see most of it.

The Jelly Roll Quilt Along block was really fun this time...thank you Nannette!

I was a very lucky girl last month and won a drawing in the Year of Schnibbles...I won the $50 gift certificate from The Fat Quarter Shop...here's what I got. A Bar Harbor layer cake and some background...I'm going to use this in Plan C from the Schnibbles Times Two book...I'm putting this with some pieces that I have left of Prairie Paisley, so a little old and a little new...YIPPEE! Thank you again Vicky for helping me pick just the right background.

This will be a better week...Mom and I are heading to Birmingham on Friday to visit Hampton and Camden (Josh and Katie too...LOL) I can't wait!

Life is So Unpredictable...

Not my usual blog posting showing a recently finished project or a block for a BOM or my dogs...I'm in a very strange place. I'm hoping that by writing this I'll feel better...I got a phone call Monday morning at 6:30...that's almost always not a good thing. I checked the caller ID first, hoping it was a wrong number, but saw it was my neighbor's cell phone number. She was up in New York for the weekend for Mother's Day with her mom and her husband's mom. This is the neighbor that owns the lab and the golden retriever that we've watched many times. My first thought was that there was a problem with the pet sitter and she needed me to watch her boys until she got back. When I answered the phone she said, "I have bad news and I wanted you to hear it from me"...OMG...my first thought was that something had happened to her dad...he's not been well. She said "Ray's gone" (Ray is her husband)...I didn't get it...I guess I must have been silent and she said "Carol, Ray's dead." I still couldn't say anything...I don't even know what I was thinking at that point. She went on to tell me that they had gotten up on Sunday morning, she went out to make coffee and heard a thump back in the bedroom...she went back to see what it was and there was Ray on the floor...the EMT's were there within minutes, he was gone. A massive heart attack. 56 years old. They were talking one minute and he was gone the next.
My Andy turned 61 last month...he was out in Dallas attending and speaking at a conference when I got this news. I just wanted him home...I needed to see him. We talked on the phone, but that just wasn't enough for me...my mother says it's that mother hen thing...when bad things happen the mother hen wants all of her chicks near her and under her wing...yup, that was it...I just wanted him here with me.
I've had lots of time by myself this week and I just keep replaying this in my head. The only conclusion I have come to is, there is absolutely nothing I can do about changing those kind of events...but I can make the absolute best out of every day. You know I've always said, Life is too darn short...don't waste time. This has really made me wake up and think I can't just say that anymore...I have to live it. I can't waste any more time being angry with anyone...all that does it eat at me, doesn't solve a thing and wastes time. I can't take anything for granted...if I need to tell someone something, I must do it when I need to, not think there will be another time to tell them...I must stop assuming that there will always be another day...I will tell the people I love that I love them...this has probably been the wake up call of my life...
Thank you for allowing me to share these thoughts today...tell someone how you feel today! Right now!

Camera's Ready

My camera batteries are recharged so I was able to get pictures of the 2 tops I did for Mountain Baby Blankets...the wind was blowing so Mr. Quilt Holder had trouble making them hang right...I'm going to make 2 more this month and then I'll send them off to Dawn. They've been folded for a week, after seeing the pictures I should have ironed them before I took the pictures...sorry...or maybe I should have taken the pictures when I finished them before I folded them...I'll do better next time...Promise!

Charming Goals...Check! Check! and Check!

Well I think I did pretty well this month...I wasn't really sure until I started making my check marks when I started this post. You've already seen most of these pictures but I thought I'd better get them all in one place for the Charming Girl Club.

Goal 1...The Civil War Tribute BOM blocks...there are 6 that need to be done this month.I goofed on this goal...there were only 4 blocks instead of 6
Goal 2...Probably 2 Jelly Roll Sampler blocks

Goal 3...The Country Loft BOM block...it has some paper piecing...that make me very nervous.

Goal 4...My Year of Shcnibbles quilt...Tagalong

Goal 5...Cut and sew the finishing kit for the Designer BOM

Goal 6...Block 11 of the Designer BOM...Block 11 is the one just above the empty spot.
Goal 7...Do at least 2 more quilts for Mountain Baby Blankets...I got 2 more done but the battery went dead on my camera so I didn't get a picture.

I'm happy to say...it was a very good month...Now it's May...new goals!
