It All Began With Pinterest

You know I said from the time Pinterest started that I wasn't going there...I wasn't looking...I knew what would happen...then you know if you've read my blog for a while that I had lunch with a friend back in July and she convinced me that I was missing out on way too much stuff...so I caved and the rest is history.  I have enough quilts and recipes (not to mention all the other stuff) pinned to keep me busy until I reach the ripe old age of 320.  It really is fun and I have made some wonderful recipes...yes, that's where this is going.
I have always loved granola but am not a real fan of what I can get in the grocery store...so I have about 20 granola recipes pinned and yesterday was the day to give one a try...Autumn Granola..
it is really, really good...I didn't make any changes,
did it just the way the recipe says.  I had some this morning with yogurt and all I can say is YUMMERS!
Then since I had a yummy treat I thought the boys needed a treat too...so back to my Boards this morning and there it was Pumpkin Biscuits...just what the boys needed...they love pumpkin and it is pumpkin season so, out came my trusty Kitchen Aide,
dough hook in place and before too long I had a nice ball of dough.  Well the recipe said to roll out the dough and cut it with cookie cutters...so being the rule follower that I am, I started cutting out biscuits...
what in the world was I thinking, the boys would never know whether they were getting bones and fire hydrants or squares, so I stopped right where I was, rerolled my dough and proceeded to just cut...
done in no time...baked and taste tested by the boys...sorry no pics...they ate them too fast to even click the camera...2 Paws up!
Now lest you think that all I've done is play on Pinterest and try new recipes I did do some sewing yesterday.  I made 7 dog beds for the shelter...
a good friend of mine from South Florida is a long arm quilter and she gave me many large bags of scraps and the edges of quilts from when she trims...I was thrilled...the bags have been in the garage for about a month now and I decided today was the day...they are easy to do, ultimate recycling, great use of stash and such a good cause.  The ladies at the shelter just squeal when I come in with new beds...I haven't come in with this many at one time since I had the shop.  Timing is good too...the weather is going to be changing a bit and next week the nights will be going down to the low 50's...these will make their nights a bit cozier.

This post totally ROCKS, Carol. :D You are one fine momma, quilter and blogger buddy. Would have loved to have been there to see the 'boys' with their homemade treats. :D

You have been very busy. Good call on the "treats". I rarely even cut out cookies for my family. If I can't just scoop it up and drop it on a tray it doesn't get made! : )

Took me a while to feel the Pinterest craze too, but its a bit of fun. Like you, I mostly go for quilts and recipes, but I havent actually tried any of them yet :-)

Yummy treats for everyone.

BTW, when you're 320 you'll only be ripe but definitely not old. LOL

I had to chuckle over your comment about enough recipes to last until you are 320. I have the same issue. I rarely cook (my husband does most of it) but I have lots of recipes pinned, along with more quilts than I can ever make. But Pinterest sure is fun!

You'd think with all that pinning going on you wouldn't have time for anything else but that's obviously not true!

I hear ya, Carol!!! Lol! I was late to the Pinterest Party too. Resisting until I could no more. I LOVE it now. It's wildly addictive. I have put my pins to good use though. Every Sunday I would do a "pin" with the girls. We've made it a family thing. Baking or crafting. It has been inspiring some decorating around the house. So I guess it's been a positive. It's a nice little mental vacation when I am heavy into some machine quilting too. :-) I love your treats that you made!! :-)

Oh Carol, I loved this post! Now I have resisted the "P" site and will continue to do so, because I can't sit at the computer too long at a time, it causes me some problems, Nuff Said. However, I do have a favor to ask. Could you email a link to the dog biscuit recipe? We make our own dog food (plain yogurt, rice, boiled chicken and pure pumpkin) and they do love the pumpkin, so I know they will love the biscuits and I too have a handy dandy Kitchen Aide, LOL. I've had it for over 25 years and there was a time when it was THE most important small appliance in my house! Wonderful thing. Of course, mine is an ugly green color...I wanted the red or white one but they were having trouble selling the 'ugly' green one so they offered it to me for $75 less than the other colors. That was a LOT of savings for us back then...come to think of it, it still is a lot of savings isn't it? I no longer bake cookies or breads for hubby and I as breads and cookies are my worst enemy, I can't swallow them. Also we rarely have company for occasions that call for baking with the exception of my pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving, but I would love to break it out and make my furry kids some biscuits that don't taste like cardboard. Honestly, have you ever tasted a regular dog biscuit? They are fine for human consumption if a body was so inclined, but I'm not. However I did taste one once, to see what in the world the attraction was to something that also smelled like cardboard...I'm still flummoxed. Anyway, I would truly appreciate it if you have time. I probably should get on the "P" site because we do eat a lot of granola and it is really hard to find good stuff. Especially after you have had the pleasure of eating homemade. Maybe one of these days I will give in...just maybe. Big Hugs....
**By the way, I probably would have used the cookie cutter too, until my hubby came in and asked why I was bothering, LMAO....

Wow, you have been busy. And I love Pinterst, too. I have a feeling I will be sitting next to you at 320 still working on using up my stash!

Check you out! Love the dog beds. I have bags of scraps in the garage myself... (oft worried some foreign critter will take up residence) with plans to do this but never have. It is getting cooler. You give me a great idea. We'll see what happens after I wake up.

Great post. The granola looks yummy and the dog biscuits too, lol. I have been saving scraps to make my daughters dog a dog bed and have a good sized bag now and I was wondering if you use batting scraps in addition to fabric, and if you do any cutting or leave them as is. some of the scraps are from the sides of basted quilts and are probably 6 inches by 80 or so. Also, for a cover do you use cotton fabric or maybe would fleece be good. When they are soiled do they do ok in the washer and dryer? Inquiring minds want to know.

Love Pinterest--- sometimes I'm too tired to read, but I get so inspired from looking at pics. We made the puppy treats as well. Fun-- and they passed the taste tests!!!!!!

I love Pinterest too - you can find anything on there! I've tried a few different recipes and so far, they have all been winners. Love that you make the dog beds for the shelter - what a great cause.

I have not joined Pinterest but it looks like you have fun with it and gotten some great recipes.
one of the ladies in our guild collects cut up scraps for dog beds for shelters.

The granola recipe sounds yummy! I've managed to stay away from pinterest. I just don't have the time for it! LOL

I make my own granola too and doggie biscuits as well, what can I say? The only thing I use Pinterest for is the ease of one button click to find things I have pinned instead of scrolling through "bookmarked" sites or trying to remember! Ha!! The dog beds are great, do you chop up the "filling" any certain way?

I'm still a Pintrest hold-out . . . . but that is just by the skin of my teeth at this point *s*
