CHAOS????????????

I was thinking this morning as Howie and I were out walking...some might think this blogpost and several before this one are just pure chaos...not me, I like to think of it as organized chaos.  I have never been one to cut a project and finish it until the end...when I made clothes I always had several things going at the same time...same with cross stitch...macrame (OMG who remembers macrame?) I always had 4 or five things hanging down in various stages of doneness...that was the year everyone got a hanging plant in a macrame hanger for Christmas...oh boy...LOL!  Well when I started quilting back in 1976, a friend was teaching me templates and hand piecing...that wasn't quite fast enough for me...I loved doing all of that with her, and will be forever grateful to her, I learned the basics and I learned them right, she was a real task master, but I needed instant gratification and that was taking way to long...so I took some of the blocks that she had taught me, log cabin and churn dash and started other projects with my very old Kenmore sewing machine and those blocks...I was hooked...to this day I can't work on just one project at a time...bet you didn't know that about me...LOL!LOL!  And now that Yvette has me making lists I am organized and efficient...getting it done and having FUN!  I'm loving it and CELEBRATING every day!

Here's what I've been up to since my last post...Camden has her 4th birthday coming up...how did that happen...and she wanted some new pillowcases...so we all know that Mamie must make that wish come true...so a trip to Joann's and a little bit of time...2 pillowcases for Miss Camden...

Then I've been lusting after Yvette's blocks for her Four General's BOM...I finally caved and went and signed up...my initial thought was just to get the pattern and use my stash...but then I decided it would be so easy to just have those little packets arrive all ready to go...a couple of days passed and I got a phone call...someone had signed up for the last spot just a few minutes before I did...I was not going to get those little packets in the mail...so I got the pattern and went to my stash...here is my first set of blocks...

I had a blast making these and I found some fabrics I hadn't seen in a while...so this all ended up very happily.

I also have been loving Lori's Barns...but decided I didn't want a whole quilt but that 6 of them would be wonderful on the back of my Farmer's Wife/Rancher's Daughter/Carol's Choice quilt (I am going to have to come up with a better name)...so here is my first barn...

TALK ABOUT FUN!  Thanks Lori!
I have one last thing to share with you today...in my quest to be more efficient, I decided that in the afternoon when I'm done sewing upstairs, that I will clean up a bit and set out the following days sewing on my cutting table...here's what I have today...
the Monthly Mini from Temecula Quilt Company...I did this fun program with them when they first offered it but was falling way behind and gave it up...then this year I've seen such wonderful little projects I decided I just couldn't miss out...so this is what I'm working on today.  I've found I waste much less time when I start my sewing time because I don't have to think about a thing..it's right there ready for me...I'm off to go cut...Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Organized chaos is the perfect description of what you're doing! Holy Bananas woman!

(there's no sleeping going on at your house - I just know it!) LOL

Wow, you have a lot going on! Sewing has come to a temporary halt for me this week because the sewing room is also our guest room and my sister is coming for a visit on Friday. So I'm cleaning up the quilting chaos; gotta make the bed.

Carol, you and I are like two peas in a pod. I subscribe to everything you said about multiple projects, always, always...it keeps things interesting, LOL. and YES...I loved Macrame, funny, I was thinking about it the just the other day, wondering if I could remember how to do it. Of course, everything circles back around, so I expect one day soon we will see it popping up again. Hugs...

Looks like you are surrounded by fun! I love your idea of setting out tomorrow's sewing when you are done with today's. That would save me a lot of wasted wondering and wandering time.

(oh, do I remember macrame!)

Yvette keeps me really motivated too! I love your 4 Star block, so pretty! I'm glad you showed the Temecula quilt, that reminds me I need to make that one too, and finish the class project for our next group meeting. ARGH!

Ha...Macrame... Like you, I got into the craze and everyone got pots and hangers for Christmas. I went from that to Crewel to Cross Stitch. When I started quilting, my hubby said "Oh no...is this another macrame hobby?". We still laugh about that. A lot more uses for quilts than plant hangers. LOL

I mean this in the kindest, most respectful way possible - this is incredibly annoying! LOL

We all KNOW that being organized is a good thing but having someone actually prove it... well, that's just wrong. :)

Macrame. I remember macrame - and making a whole bunch of macrame plant hangers one Christmas! We could be twins... all except for that organization thing.

Love your Four Star General block! Your fabrics are gorgeous. Organized is great! I really love the idea of setting up for the next sewing session. I wish I could do that but I don't have a sewing room yet and use my den/kitchen. I set up on Friday night and clean up on Sunday. :(

Organized chaos- - sounds perfect! LOL
those 4 star generals are wonderful! Macramé - lol, oh yes! Too funny how we have "gone through" the same "eras".

Oh, I made many a macrame hanging plant holder, too!
I think Camden will love Mamie's birthday gift!
I love Yvette's blocks, too, but have restrained myself. You are doing great without the little packets of fabric. : )
Someone was just telling me about Lori's barns today. I wasn't going to go look--too tempting. Then you have to show one. Too cute. Okay--I'll go look!
Definitely get that mini made. How can you resist a mini? I know I can't--well, we all know I can't!

Gosh, I don't think I could have been a quilter prior to rotary cutters and mats. The fabric and the patterns are so nice now... however, some blocks are just timeless. Your Temecula projects are going to be fun to make up. I love all of your eye candy... you have been so busy. Your barn blocks are gorgeous too.

I often feel the same way you do. There is often a lot of "Chaos" when we are creating! But, it's all good and great therapy.

I think I'd be bored stiff, if I only worked on one thing at at time until it was done. Of course, with so many projects 'in progress', I seldom finish anything, but, I'm not bored!

I have to laugh. You sound just like me. I always have a bunch of projects going on at a time. This month maybe too many.

I too make lists. It keeps me semi focused and I get more done.

I love the projects you are working on. Hugs

I need to yank out my unfinished and add to my current projects! Your chaos is wonderful...you can't get bored with just one project right?

My sister-in-law has been looking for some macrame cord to re-do an old lawn chair. One I would have tossed out a long time ago. LOL! I only ever attempted macrame once and just didn't seem to have the strength in my hands.

I remember doing macrame in girl scouts. Maybe it hould make a come back and you can start a new craze:) But then you would have to start a new list. Love your projects!!

Holy cow Carol! You are a super sewer! Love the sweet pillow cases... and the Four General blocks... gorgeous fabrics chosen from your stash! What a great idea (getting things ready for your day of sewing), the night before. You can dive right in! Keep it up, girl!

You are very clever with this efficient new way to start the day.. I love it! Your blocks and barns inspire me to start something new... whoa; I may have to retract that statement, in the interest of my own mental health! Suffice it to say I love what you do/accomplish. I approach my own projects the same way that you do, the more the merrier.

Well what you're doing is working because you get so many wonderful projects done! I love my lists, but I have a lot of projects in various states of completion too. There are just too many amazing patterns out there to work on just one thing at a time. I keep telling myself 'no new projects'. but who am I kidding? ;)
