All Over The Place

When you read my post today you will probably be shaking your head from side to side, saying "she's all over the place"...and guess what, you'd be right! LOL! I've got 2 different projects posted here today and I've done swap blocks for 3 different swaps, prepped some stitchery blocks and pulled fabric for another project, all in the past 3 days and you know what...I had a great time! Tons of FUN!

I've had Cheri Saffiote's Christmas quilt on my list for a while...and I decided it was time to get going...I prepped a block from the top right corner, that's the star block and I added the wool heart, and the bottom right, that's the pear block and instead of regular cotton to applique the star and the stem, I'm using wool. Don't ask why I didn't start with section 1, like any organized person would do...those 2 blocks just caught my eye and I was off pulling fabric.

A very good friend of mine has a son graduating from high school in May, so this is for him...I'm using a Holly Taylor line of fabric...he's a real outdoor guy, loves to hunt so this will be perfect for him. This is one of the 4 large blocks that make up the quilt and then there are several borders...I used one Jelly Roll and the "Trail Adventures" pattern from the Strip Crazy book. It's going together so fast. YIPPEE!

I have to share this book with you...Howie and Zack gave this to me for Christmas...it's a tiny little book with a very powerful message. Anna Quindlan hit the nail right on the head with this one in describing what dogs bring to our lives...if you are a dog lover this is a must read...make sure you have several Kleenex.

Now for a bit of a rant...I am just having a hard time believing a phone call I got today from Josh, but I know he wasn't making this up because mom called and told me the same thing. It seems that Josh and Katie sent mom a card and a whole stack of new pictures of Hampton. Katie said she took it into the post office, handed it to the man, told him it was pictures for their grandmother of her great-grandson. The man was very nice, he had her write on the envelope "Pictures...Do Not Bend". Skip forward to yesterday when mom got the mail...the envelope was there and she was so excited...Hampton pictures...well, she said someone had clearly cut the envelope open and there were no pictures inside...the note card was there but that was it. Mom was almost in tears, Josh promised to resend the pictures, and they were both just perplexed and saddened. So they each called me separately to tell the story and get my thoughts on why someone would do that. All I can think of is that they thought maybe there was money in there, pulled out the pictures, no money, and threw the pics away instead of putting them back in. Mom was so excited because these were new ones that we haven't gotten from the kids over the Internet, these were special for her and they're gone. I just don't get it! Why can't people just be nice?

What a horrible thing for someone to do! I just don't get it either. And, consider this, it was most likely a postal worker! Who else would have done that? And we are paying them huge prices for postage for what? Can you remind me??? Sheesh! How sad.

I just don't get people. Why would anyone steal pictures of someone else's child? I think they should both go to the post office and complain.
I love the Cheri Saffiote's Christmas quilt so far. I can't wait to see it further along. The graduation quilt is really nice too. You have been busy.

Desperate people end up doing some really mean and unexplainable things - it's just wrong!

I love Anna Quindlen - she really has a way with words.

Unbelievable, what people won't do to think they can steal something from someone. Why couldn't they just put the pictures back and tape up the envelope. It looks like you have been one busy girl the past couple days. You go girl.

Wow. That's just weird about the pictures! Love your grad quilt beginnings. I've done quite a few grad quilts but always tried to keep them pretty simple. Yours is looking great!

Younger people have not had the upbringing they should have had and have no respect for anything that isn't theirs. It seems to be the way of the world these days and it is very disturbing. Especially to the older generation.

OMG I can't believe that. How awful but I bet your right. They thought money was inside. You know how those MEAN people can be. We've talked about this how many times?????
Love the grad quilt and the Cheri blocks. But..........are you packing???

I love that you've been having fun in your sewing haven! WooHoo!

I'm so sorry to read about your Mom's disappointment with the pictures. We'll never be able to explain or understand what some people will do. I just don't get it. Sigh!

Oh how horrible that someone took the photos. I love the big 'manly' quilt. It is so hard to find ones to make suitable for men. You found the perfect fabric!

That horrible for someone to take pictures that are being sent in the mail...the pictures wouldn't even mean anything to them.

You have some wonderful new blocks going there.

Very strange and pathetic. I would definitely let the postmaster in on what happened. Now, I live in a small town, so something would get done about it, but even so, if there have been several complaints/problems, there might be a solution, but not for you. So sorry this happened to you.

Oh so lovely! I can't wait to get to that block. Did you do the double sided piece for the pear like Cheri does or press under the edges? Who says you have to do them in order? You know I have things going all over the place...keeps you excited and your brain happy!

Probably they thought pictures, birthday card, money. They only have a few seconds to slash and steal. Tell them to not write pictures next time, but to put them between some very thick cardboard so they can't be bent and re-send. They tell you to never send colorful cards either for that reason.

Oh, that just makes me feel sad. I can only imagine how disappointed everyone feels.

I do not understand how people can be so uncaring :O(, I mean to open up someone's mail because you hope to take whats in it, then you find photos instead so you just toss them... never thinking what those would mean to the person getting them!!! Mercy me :O(....

Your guy quilt is going to be great. I am going to have to check the book out :O)... love those furry kids :O) ya know...making note get box of kleenex too!

That is very creepy. I hope the pictures can be reprinted for Grandma.

I cannot believe that people would steal photos because they probably thought there was something they wanted in that envelope! I always think that I'm not going to be shocked by others' behavior, but then something like this happens, and I'm surprised all over again! I feel so badly for your mom - how heart-breaking!
As for being all over the place - that's my usual mode of operation, I'm afraid! As long as you're having fun, it doesn't matter, does it? LOL! Love the beginnings of the Cheri Saffiote quilt - I think her patterns are so cute. Your guy quilt is beautiful!! I love that fabric - it's so pretty! er, I mean handsome!!
As for the dog book, I have wanted to read it, but I figured it was a tear-jerker, and I'm not in the mood for a good cry right now. Gotta be in the mood, you know! Thanks for sharing, Carol!
