The Shuttle Took Off

The Space Shuttle Discovery took off on Monday morning just before 6:30 and it was an incredible sight. I don't know if it's because there are only a few more of these to go up, but I think this was the most spectacular one I've ever seen. The sky was soooooooo clear and the humidity was very low. We're about 60 miles from the Cape and my little point and shoot isn't all that fancy but we were on our front porch anyway. This one was just as it cleared the trees...just after I took this one, we heard a very loud rumble...it was like a sonic boom that just kept going. They said because the air was so clear we were able to hear it...that was a first. There were places around Orlando that the windows shook...it was amazing. Quite a way to start the week!

Rumbling of the best kind. I think I would enjoy witnessing this at least once in my lifetime.

Oh I LOVE shuttle launches, and I really miss seeing them. I used to love feeling the rumble as the shuttle took off, I wish I could see just one more.....

I was awake and working in the sewing room but forgot about the launch until I heard the sonic boom. And what a boom!

I would LOVE the chance to see a shuttle launch . . . hopefully we'll make it before they end, now that we are on the right coast *s*

Thanks for posting about the shuttle! What a wonderful sight that must have been. I've always wanted to see the shuttle launch. A few years ago we were in Oviedo (visiting my aunt) and we did the NASA day tour. The shuttle launch had been delayed. I was hoping they would laungh when we were there, but no. That's okay because we got to see the shuttle on the launching pad. What a site! Loved my day at NASA. Had lunch with an astronaut! An experience I highly recommend. Oh well, you brought back memories. Thank you! Hugs!
