It's a Party...

yes it is...I'm having a party...are you saying "I wonder what she's celebrating"?...

I'm celebrating my 6th Birthday in Blogland...WOW...6 years...the time has flown, so much has happened and I've met some of the most wonderful people in all of the world.

Andy's been out of town for a few days and is coming home in just a bit, so I've had some quiet, alone time to reflect on the past 6 years...some very wonderful things have happened, some incredibly sad things have happened,  some of the most joyous times of my life have happened...I had my quilt shop when I started this blog, Andy retired in April of 2007, I decided to close the shop and retire in August 2007, we've been blessed with 3 beautiful grandchildren, our son and family moved from Chicago to Birmingham (Lots closer for Mamie), we've taken trips that we've wanted to do all of our married life (Alaska, Maine, New York, Washington DC), spent time with dear, dear friends...Lost my dear friend Jami, lost my sweet mom, started taking better care of myself, eating better, working out...started working on designing patterns, got some people out of my heart and life that were just simply not good for me, met wonderful people because my heart was now open...I think I could probably go on and on, but you all get where I'm going here...

So to celebrate my 6th Blog Birthday (Blogiversary if you will) I have a treat for you...I'll be drawing a name at 9a.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) Friday, August 3rd from the comments to this post...you don't have to jump through any hoops, just do one thing for me if you will...take a few minutes to reflect on the past 6 years of your lives...the good and the bad and the stuff in between...leave me a comment.

The winner will receive a $50 Gift Certificate from Green Fairy Quilts...they always have a great selection of MODA precuts...and they get the very newest stuff really quick...and they're delightful to work with...I love to support small business!

So get busy on your assignment!  Have a wonderful day!

First off Congratulations on 6 years of blogging.

Reflecting my past 6 years ... hmmm ...

I have been fortunate in some things, but have lost 2 dear friends and my Mother just this March. I know they are all in a better place and I know they are always with me and also that I am so fortunate to have had them in my life.

I have not gotten as much quilting done as I would have like. I hope to start doing more when my moms things are all settled.

Until then I am just plugging along getting whatever stitching done here and there when time allows.

So much can change in 6 years. Now that I think about it .... Graduated one from high school, graduated one from college, lost my father, lost my job, lost my brother, lost my sister, turned the BIG 50, found out I will be a grandma, started a new business. Geez, Carol, you sure can make a person think with one small request! Congrats on 6 years in blogland!

Can you believe it's been six years? So much has happened in the past six years but I'm especially glad that our friendship happened and has just gotten stronger. You're not just a friend, Carol, you're a friend of my heart.

Congratulations, my friend.

Let's see - 6 years. I moved to Georgia, no rug hookers in my area so I learned to quilt. Most of my new friends are through the guild. I would love to win the gift certificate.

Congrats Carol. I've enjoyed getting to know you through blogging. So much happens in 6 years...yet seems like yesterday. We moved from overseas, DH retired military, several graduations, an engagement, lost my father to cancer, tried to sell a house, purchased land to hopefully build, started Quilt Hollow as a business, acquired neighbors cat, had health issues I'd never encountered and turned the big 50. Oh gosh there is so much more that I'd love to forget like my son totaling his brand new car and lucky he was ok. Looking forward to seeing your quilts and watching your grands grow ever so quickly. Hugs

I started blogging in Dec 2007 which was two years after I retired. My life has changed quite a bit in six years, but I am happier and much healthier. I am using my "free" time to knit for charities and to make Quilts of Valor to be given to our returning warriors. These two projects give me a great deal of satisfaction. Life is Good!

A big congratulations to you!!! The past 6 years like everyone has had it's up and downs. We have been blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, my daughter has a fella in her life that makes her so, so happy, we both retired...me under not the best circumstances, but now looking back, I see things do happen for a reason, hubby is loving his retirement and doing all the things he loves, we have traveled and camped tons. I have sadly lost two very dear friends and recently the loss of my mother in law...sad for our entire family. Meeting so many wonderful supportive bloggers has truly been a highlight too.

What fun to celebrate 6 years of blogging with you. Yours was one of the first I started following about 4 years back after only knowing about Bonnie Hunter's site for a few. The time has been a full one for me as well. Some of it successful in establishing myself in a new department in the hospital and some of life has just been a challenge to get through. My focus is to keep growing and to try to do less judging...of myself and everything else as well.
Thank you for all your sweet sharing in the blog post. Love the new design work.

Happy 6 years! I didn't even know about blogging 6 years ago - was too busy with a job that I came to detest, which led me to where I am now...so much happier and doing what I love! And in between...a wedding, a cute little Grandson, entertaining pets, a supportive husband, good times and road trips with my mom...and on and on. Thanks for being you! So glad I met you through blogging.

Six years ago I was blogging on Vox and was happy to be shooting pictures with a 4.0 megapixel camers. How things have changed. Since I moved to Austin I got introduced to quilting and got good and hooked. It is my passion. P.S. The megapixels on my camera went up too.

Happy 6th to you !!!! Funny how it seems to go by soooo fast !!!! But then when you look back a whole lot of life has passed by seemingly unknowingly !!! In the last six years I had a baby girl that was totally unexpected, changed jobs after 14 years. Had middle daughter move out. Husband
was briefly hopitalized, MIL had a stroke and have had to replace two cars.....and it carries on, as it should...I think it a very good thing that we never quite know whats around the next curve :)

Congratulations!! Six whole years. Actually, I was doing some reflecting of my own as I was reading your post. Many paralels in our lives. I need to give some thought to moving some people out of my heart to make room for others. I've never thought if it that way, but it makes perfect sense.

My sweet mother in love became very ill in 2009 and passed away this past April.
I went to Paducah for the first (and second ) time.
We moved into a new house.

Congratulations on 6 years of blogging. We've lived in our house for 7 years, and our youngest grandchildren are 7 years old now. The biggest change in the past six years though, as been that we've started to travel more. We've taken a major hiking trip almost every year, and have really enjoyed seeing the great USA up close and personal.

Six years is truly a big milestone in this genre! Six years ago my husband was taking chemo three times a week, we were both retired, and life was very quiet - good, but quiet. Now we are part-time missionaries, we travel a bit, we do a lot of different things at church, we keep grandkids when we can, and next week I'm going back to work. Just for four months. I keep saying that...just for four months. Writing a blog came in there somewhere after a small stroke and it became a ministry for me, both for myself and for others. I am not who I used to be but I am who I want to be, and that's a very good thing. blessings, marlene

Congratulations, Carol. I've only been blogging a little over a year, but you were one of the first blogs I found. I enjoyed making pillowcases for your friend, have been saddened by her passing and that of your mother. I have always enjoyed your graciousness and your projects.
In 6 years my oldest daughter married and moved away, my younger daughter had 2 more children--one with disabilities--my best friend died, my FIL died, I hit the half century mark, I started blogging, and as stresses have come and gone (or stayed) I have found quilting to offer a very supportive community and provide great therapy.

My daughter graduated college. My #2 son got married. I lost my brother. I have dealt with some physical issues but God is good. I have made some friends through blogging and am always inspired.
Heres to many more years of blogging and making friends.

Wow Carol...6 years!!! Congratulations sweet friend! You know, the last 6 years are easy for me to look back over and remember all phases. See, we raised a second family, our two oldest grandsons, the oldest for 19 years. During the last 6 years, both boys have become adults and moved out, the oldest going into the Air Force as a career, now stationed at Andrews AFB, MD. My hubby just returned from a 5300 mile solo motorcycle ride back to see him. Their mother also moved on to her own place just over 4 years ago, so we finally became true empty nesters and don't mind it one bit. Also in those 6 years I lost the ability to do the intricate hand work and crocheting doilies, tablecloths, etc due to my Scleroderma, BUT, that led me to quilting 4 years ago, which in turn led me to blogs, which in turn, led me to some wonderful people around the world, that I now joyfully call my friends, and amazingly, some of them also count me as a friend. Hubby and I finally, after 42 years, got our Honeymoon in 2010 on my 60th birthday...10 days at a beautiful ranch in Patagonia, AZ and it was wonderful. Of course, on the bad and ugly side, there was my hubbys heart attack in 2008 and those 4 surgeries I had over the last two years, and the news that I am going on low dose Chemo meds next month... but I'm fine and it is what it is and we run with it the best we can, right? Still, honestly, when you really look around you and think about your life, isn't it amazing how blessed we truly are, every single day??? Things have a way of working out, even when life seems grim??? Now, I wonder what the next 6 years will bring? Big Hugs coming to you Carol...

Congratulations! 6 years blogging is awesome. The most important thing in the past 6 years is two new granddaughters that I nanny for my daughters. They have brought me much joy. Many sad times and happy times in my family. Many quilt finishes and new ideas to add to my unfinished projects! I'm still kickin' even with a bad diagnosis this Spring. This assignment is a lot to think about. Best Wishes, Mary

Six years is no small feat. I'm in my fifth year of blogging - time flies so fast!

Six years ago my youngest graduated from high school and we moved away from Washington where we'd lived for 22 years, to Utah where our children were. Since then we've had two more weddings, and seven more grandchildren (the total is eight now). My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and we moved my parents here to be close by us. Lots of college degrees awarded to children and their spouses.

There are always ups and down, but life is good. When you have love and faith in your life you can get through most anything.

Thank you for sharing your life with us.

Congratulations on 6 years of blogging!! That's quite a milestone!

In the last 6 years we've had some pretty major milestones in our home!
Our 5th son was born 3 years ago(I was 43)--the oldest was 20 at the time so we have a 20 year age span between our youngest and oldest!
Our 2 oldest boys went to college. One has graduated, the other will finish in Dec. (Beginning this fall, our 3rd son will begin dual enrollment college.)
Our 2nd son started a job, has put a contract on a house and is in a courtship relationship with a sweet girl.
Our oldest son started his own business, making ultra-light backpacking gear. He employees me as his chief seamstress and keeps me very busy sewing down socks, pants, jackets, etc.
I started quilting again (in my free moments from sewing for my son) after a long hiatus!
We experienced a death in our family--my husband's aunt, whom we were caretakers for.
Our family changed churches to a sweet, family focused congregation.
I've found lots of quilt blogs that I really enjoy on a daily basis.
Thanks for the chance to win the gift certificate! What a great prize!

Six years?!? I have trouble remembering six days ago! Guess that would start with a hysterectomy (best decision ever!), took a few quilting classes with my best friend, moved on to learning applique (my very favorite addiction!), carpal tunnel surgery on both hands, had to put down my two beautiful malamutes in the same year, my only child (daughter) moved to the opposite coast...California, but right now she's on her way driving back home to stay! :-) Lots of up and downs, but such is life. Congratulations on your 6 years of blogging!

6 years, ok, we have moved house, changed jobs, suffered illness, recovered, 2 sweet grandchildren have been born, we lost our most beloved dog, I entered my first quilt show (and then another), I went back to school and have just graduated, got my motorbike licence and I discovered blogs. Lots of ups and downs but overall life is good :-)
Thanks Carol.

The past six years....wow... I actually was working on a post today that made me think about these things. I think I have been incredibly lucky, but there have been some bumps. We have had six graduations for four kids--some high school, some college, three weddings, and many great family times.

I like your idea of moving on past people who do not want the best for you and welcoming others who do. I need to work on that...and my To Do List more!

Your blog has been fun to read! So glad I found it out in BlogLand!!

A lot happens in 6 years! My husband retired, my son married our beautiful daughter- in-law, we enjoyed 6 family summer vacations with our grown kids & their spouses, we welcomed our first 3 grandchildren just 6 weeks apart (twin boys last September and a sweet baby girl in October). Unfortunately my mom lost her battle with cancer less than two months before her first great grandchildren were born. Isn't that the way life is? We have to endure the bitter with the sweet.

In that time, I've lost my SIL, MIL, and FIL. I've watched my mom's journey with Alzheimer's - it is very near the end. I've endured a vertebrate broken off in my back and the 12 month rehab.

I can walk and hold my grandchildren again! We gained five grandchildren giving us a total of 7.

We are blessed - we are enjoying good health, good friends, a chance to travel often, and quilt almost daily.

6 years of blogging...wow! Congratulations to you. I have been reflecting on my last 6 years...well 8 actually. Let me explain. I have been working for the same company in a small rural town for 8 years. During this time I have fallen in love with the people here. I have helped many heal and others to take the next step into the next great adventure. I have learned to love the Hospice program and what it does for those who are dying. I have made great friends and will never forget them as I move to a new home a couple of hours away from here to live near my mom. So in August I will say goodbye to my job and friends and start a new adventure of my own. Maybe I'll open a quilt shop...hummm

But even with all these awful, sad, and life-changing events.....we are happy, strong, and looking forward! Quilting, blogging, and the friends I have with these two connections have played a major part in keeping my sanity these past few years, and I just wouldn't be the same without them!

Happy Blogging Birthday! What an accomplishment! I am glad to be a follower. I have had some dipsy doodles in the roadway of my life the last 6 years....

Lost the love of my life, my dear husband, to Multiple System Atrophy, in May 2009. A weird variation of Parkinson's disease where your brain loses the ability to communicate with muscles. Like the muscles that make you breathe.

Took a 10-day trip to England (by myself) in May 2010 and visited Bath, Liverpool and London and would love to go back and spend a month there!

My 93 year old mom continues to deteriorate from Alzheimer's disease but has flashes of lucidity that crack me up sometimes. She doesn't know who I am but loves to play "I spy" with the quilts I make for charity and bring to show her.

Things could be a little bit better, but they could be a whole lot worse. I tried to retire last year but flunked that. I'm down to 4 days a week and maybe I can retire bit by bit. I like my job, I like the people I work with, I have health care - life is pretty good.

In the past 6 years my life has changed so much. My father died 6yrs ago and I have been staying with my mother whenever I am not working. My husband eats supper with us and spends the evening and then goes home. We don't see very much of each other. Our youngest son got married. To grandkids graduated from high school and the granddaughter starts college in 2 weeks. My mother-in-law, brother-in-law and quite a few friends have passed away. On the good side, I have a job that I love (21 yrs) have health care, husband is semi-retired and has job he likes, sons and DILs are working and everyone is pretty healthy most of the time. Wow, glad you asked us to reflect on these years. Makes you see how blessed we really are.

In the last 6 years, I lost my mom, my MIL and FIL and almost lost one of my precious grands (all within a 12-month period). I've been blessed with 2 more grands. DH and I have been able to retire and to travel pretty extensively (southern Florida multiple times, Hilton Head multiple times, Oregon a couple of times, Colorado). We moved to our retirement home. I have spent a lot of time reflecting lately too. My youngest two children each turned four this year and I turned forty, so I'm going through a transitional phase. The kids are becoming more independent and involved in actioties outside of our home and the reality that our family of eight is complete has sunk in at a deeper level. There are wistful moments, but excitement at what the coming years are going to bring too.

Congratulations on your blog's anniversary!

We have one boy serving our country now as a Marine and one girl taking the world by storm and headed to vet school. I lost my Dad. Celebrated 25 years of marriage. We have cried, laughed, and prayed through all of it and give thanks daily for His abundant blessings. May you too be blessed as your journey continues. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Happy Bloggy Anniversary! I just found your blog and I really like it. Wow, 6 yrs. has gone by so fast. We relocated to UT from CA and that was rough (leaving relatives behind) but it was a good move because we are only 20 min. from our daughter and 4 grandchildren. They are the love of our lives and when I am not in my sewing room, I am with them.
I want to spend my "golden years" with wonderful memories of the things we did with them.
Bless you! Nettie

Happy Bloggy Anniversary!
You are right about how fast 6 years can go by. Let's see, 5 years ago, I purchased a house all by myself and remodeled it with the help of my son-in-law, 4 years ago in June, had a new grandson, Jack! and best of all, I met the man I had prayed for, and we got married 4 years ago in October!

So much has happened in the last 6 years. I became a blogger and a quilter, made many blogging friends, make quilts, blocks and pillowcases for friends, family and donation. I lost my father. I retired, taking care of my mother now.
I love this quilting community. Congratulations on your 6 year anniversary.

Happy 6th yr blogiversay! Wow that is impressive. My last 6 yrs - lots of changes! I started a new job, my father passed, found out some people were not who I thought they were, I sold a house when my kids left home as young adults, I moved to a different town and built a house all by myself, became a grandma to a wonderful 3 yr old grandson! Funny where life leads us!

Retirement, married grandchildren, new great-grandbabies, lots of quilts for lots of family members. Some losses, most notably the loss of my mother. Life goes on.
Happy Blogaversary, six years is quite an accomplishment.

Congratulations on six years of blogging. Six years - left the work force to help my mother take care of my late father, began having health problems of my own, gained four new grandnieces that I dearly love, and take each day as it comes. It is wonderful being able to quilt - my mother is my quilting teacher.

Congratulations and Happy Blogging Birthday!!
In the past six years I got a terrific job; my youngest graduated high school and is now finishing up his last semester at UNF. My oldest graduated high school and fire fighting academy. He has a girlfriend that has a son and they have brought so much joy into my life. I lost my dear grandmother and husband's grandmother that at one time I felt like I couldn't go forward. But I know they are with me and would want me to carry on. My husband and I have been become closer than we have ever been and will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary in two months. I have met some wonderful quilting friends. I have been introduced to the wonderful world of blogging. I have also renewed a friendship that I thought I had lost for ever. But the most precious thing that has happened to me in the past six years is that after 12 years of being estranged from my sister we just spent last weekend together and the bond that we once shared is just as strong as ever. I am very blessed.

Thinking of the past 6 years is easy: DH and I retired 6 years ago as of June 30th. We have had such a wonderful time being able to do things together as well as separately without the push and pull of work. And, of course, for the first time I have a dedicated place for my quilting. It's been a really good 6 years.

Happy Bloggy Anniversary!! That is quite something, Carol!! My last six years have been amazing - I lost my business, my home, my car and my office building when the Mortgage debacle reared it's ugly head in mid-2008. I moved to St. Goerge Utah to help my sweet Dad through the rest of his life. He passed away in May of this year. Like Sue, it was the hardest thing I have ever gone through. After crying for all of May, I jumped into a new adventure and moved 6 miles west of Weston, Idaho, a small town of 437 (now 438) just across the Utah border and am loving it!! I started blogging in early 2010 and have met some of the nicest people ever!! Our trials may be great at times, but our joy is even greater!! Life is VERY good!! Thank you for a lovely giveaway!!!
