I Made a Mountain INTO a Mole Hill

Yes you read that right...I feel that's exactly what I did.  I took a quilt that I had wanted to do since the Fall/Winter of 2009...that was the year that Temecula Quilt Company was in the Quilt Sampler and their quilt was on the front.  I think I mentioned before that I ordered the kit the minute it became available, it arrived and I was immediately intimidated.  Wonderful kit, lots of fabrics, amazing quilt design, lots of pieces to cut...I read the directions and then read them again...there was absolutely not a thing wrong with the pattern, it was very well written, and very well organized...I just couldn't seem to get my head around where to begin...so the kit aged.  Then I decided earlier this year that I wanted that quilt this year...I looked at it differently...I broke it up into sections and did a section a month...that was the answer...yesterday I finished the second to the last section of this quilt and added it...

I am so, so excited.  I'm thrilled that this quilt is almost finished but I'm more thrilled that I've discovered a new way to approach projects. I'm taking the "Mountain" project and breaking it into "Mole Hill" sections... Can you tell?  I'm a happy girl!!!!!!!!

How exciting! It really does look wonderful! I think often it's easy to get overwhelmed by a project. Your idea to break it up was perfect! :0)

WOW! That looks fantastic.
That quilt is on my list of to-do's. I wish I had known about the kit.

No wonder you liked it! I'm glad you figured out a way to tackle it. Another plus for your list system too!

Congrats to you on your victory, Carol!
Beautiful quilt--and I think it is probably even better for having aged. : )

Great plan, and a great quilt. I have a couple of patterns that are too overwhelming, so I need to make them into mole hills!

Sometimes we have to climb mole hills before we can climb mountains. Either way, it's a fantastic quilt!

I have started the small houses for this pattern, but have not made much progress...it is my goal to finish it this summer. I will steal your idea of breaking it down into parts. I did not buy the kit, but have been making it from my stash which has been some of why it is going slowly for me. Congratulations on your progress, you have inspired me to work on mine tomorrow as part of scrap basket Sunday. Yhanks

Good for you! Mine is still sitting right where I put it years ago for the same reason. Might have to revisit it!

What I like about this design are the house blocks in different sizes. A good finish.

Instructions can make things intimating...Is that why men don't read them?!!??!?! Glad you made the hurdle.... You are going to love this one...

You're amazing! Always a breath of fresh air to me!

Good job Carol! I love your quilt and I also wish I would have bought the kit. I do have the magazine though and someday I'll make it....

One of the things I recently learned was that I know more now than I did when I began quilting. Things that were intimidating are not so much now. The things that intimidate me now are much more complicated than the things I would have even looked at a few years ago. I think we get smarter as we age....that's my thinking and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

That's called 'Eating an elephant one bite at a time'. And you did it extremely well - love that quilt with all the different blocks - good job! It always feels so good to finish a UFO, huh?

I remember that quilt. Your sectioning it up worked. It is beautiful. Can't wait to see the finished quilt top. Hugs

It's beautiful! Way to break it down into bite size pieces. Slow but steady wins the race.

Sometimes things need to age. It looks wonderful, and I can tell it's making you feel wonderful too -- and that's the most important part:)

That quilt is marinating in my Quilt Annex. I finished the center, the endless snowballs, but I just can't seem to go any further. I may never make that one. It is cute though.

Congratulations on finishing a long term project. I have one of those- it is a tumbling block quilt and I started it- I am thinking about 2004- it still lays languishing in a bag- a huge pile of batik flags with skinny borders applied... It is indeed a someday quilt LOL- maybe after I get the four wedding quilts put together I will tackle it again LOL
Thanks for sharing your success- it looks beautiful and was worth your effort to finish.
Regards from Alberta,
Anna

Wonderful!! I haven't picked up a needle (until last night that is) and so I applaud you for diving into a long term project and getting the job done (beautifully I might add). I've always loved that quilt :-)

Keep on keeping me inspired, Carol!!

I am thrilled to see that you are working on this quilt. It is a favorite of mine and has been on my list since it was published. I started to cut our some fabrics... but that's as far as I got. I can't wait to see yours all done Carol... just the nudge I need!
