Over a Week...How Does That Happen?

Well I really know how it happened...I was away again for a few days...I did have my IPad, but I still haven't figured out how to blog from it and add a picture...guess I need to spend some time playing with it and figure it out. I'm heading up to Birmingham for a week with the kids so Hampton will probably be able to teach me how to do it.

I've been sewing today and got my Fat Quarter Shop BOM block done...
every time I make one of these blocks I love the fabric even more...Vintage Modern is just so darn cute.

I also finished this quilt,
I'm using it on my kitchen table, this week. I showed a little peek of this a bit ago...I'm ready to share the whole thing now. It's made from Hometown fabric by Sweetwater and I designed the pattern. This just sort of came to me shortly after mom passed away. I had the fat quarter bundle on my shelf and for some reason pinwheels came to mind
...and I even had a name...Fly Away Home...and it's dedicated to mom. If any of you are interested in making this I'll be happy to do a pattern blogpost...so just leave me a comment and let me know. It's a fun one to do and I think it would be great in whatever fabric you want to use.

What a beautiful quilt dedicated to your mother. That's a wonderful fabric line. Did you do the quilting? I just love the swirls:)

If you use the Blogpress app from the apple store, you should be able to blog from your iPad. It's pretty easy to use once you download the app :)

Have a wonderful time with your grandkiddos!

Hugs,
Sue

A beautiful way to pay tribute to your Mother and designing your own pattern must make it all the more special. I think quilts can be a wonderful comfort when going through difficult life transitions. When my Mom had a fatal stroke several years ago, I was distressed that she spent the last 3 days on Earth in a hospital ICU. The only thing she ever expressed to us kids was her wish to die in her own bed at home. I could not grant that request. I mentioned that I wanted to run home and bring her a pillow and blanket so she would be surrounded by something soft and that smelled like home instead of rough hospital linens. A few minutes later a volunteer came to the room while I was in tears and asked if I would come with her because she thought she might be able to help me. She took me to the chapel were there was a room filled with over a dozen beautiful handmade quilts. I was able to select one and take it back to the ICU and wrap my Mom in the beautiful soft fabrics. She passed away the next day and I gave the quilt to one of my sisters and that quilt help her heal from the sudden loss. I wish I knew who put all the time and attention into that beautiful quilt because they gave a gift that was so needed and appreciated. I am sure that your Mother loves the cheerful and thoughtful quilt you made in her memory. It would be wonderful if your would share the pattern.

Yup. Hampton can probably run circles around you on your Ipad. Or maybe yours is too old, and he's way beyone it? Geesh! Hard to be our age! Fun too!

I love your quilt..and especially the name knowing why you named it so! It would be so nice of you to share the pattern. I am just finishing up a pinwheel in 30/40 fabrics. It is different, but the movement of the blocks appeals to me the same way your creation does!

What a touching story about your Mom and such an appropriate name for the pattern of the quilt. I lost my mother in May of last year and will be shortly leaving to go out of state to settle her estate of her things. She was a sewer and had LOTS of fabric. I am the only one of her daughters who quilt. I would love for you to share your pattern with us as I would love to use it to make a quilt for my other siblings from my Mom's fabrics.
Take care.
Emily
