Some More Destashing

Happy Saturday!  Everything from my sale this past week has been sent on its way...

if you ordered something start watching your mailbox Monday or Tuesday...it went out yesterday and all went Priority.  After my bike ride and before I started sewing I did a bit more destashing...I had planned to also put some more wool up tonight but my camera is dead so there won't be anymore picture taking...I'll be back with wool tomorrow.

Tonight I have Journey of a Quilter...by Leanne's House...

SOLD
All 10 months of the patterns, fabric for the blocks and the floss.  This was kitted by Buggy Barn and they did an awesome job.  I did a search online and found just the patterns for $130-$150...I bought the patterns and then paid $17 a kit for the fabric...so $300+...I'm asking $225 shipping included.  US shipping only.

Just leave me a PayPal e-mail and I'll get an invoice out to you and it will go in the earliest mail.  It's a wonderful kit...I just won't ever get to it.

A Wonderful BLUR...

Yes, that is the only way I can describe the entire month of July...a wonderful blur!

It all began the end of June, when after a very long travel day, delays, mechanical problems, weather issues, and an extra trip back to LAX for my luggage (my project suitcase was the important one) my vacation in California began...Sewapalooza 2013!  Now don't try to Google that, it wasn't an organized retreat or anything, it was a wonderful 11 day vacation with great friends...sewing, laughing, crying (just a little), eating, shopping, and sewing some more!  It was amazing!  We did a little bit of the Southern California Quilter's Run on Saturday...no jet lag for this girl...we were on the road right around 8 (with a stop at Sonic for a Diet Coke, I needed all the help I could get)...we were off to Fat Quarters, Grand Country, Temecula Quilt Company (my absolute favorite) and Stars and Scraps.  What a fun, fun day!

Sunday through Wednesday we sewed and sewed and sewed and on Wednesday we headed back to Temecula and spent the day sewing in the shop with Sheryl Johnson...she is the sweetest person, opened up her shop to us, had yummy bread and fruit and we got to meet her sweet, sweet daughter...if you get to the area, make sure to stop in...if you love reproduction fabrics, you will love Sheryl's shop...there is so much inspiration in that shop, I could stay there for days and take in all in.

Thursday through Monday we sewed and sewed and sewed...ate great Mexican food, grilled out and just absolutely had the BEST time!  Hope we can do it again some time!

Then I came home on Tuesday and left for my week at the beach on Saturday, just enough time to unpack, do laundry and repack.  Andy went with me for the weekend, we went to 2 of our favorite fish places in Sarasota for dinner Saturday and Sunday night and then he came home Monday.  I was alone reading on my porch with this view...
Walking on the beach as much as I could...

These fellas walked with me a lot...

visiting with old friends, watching sunsets

and sewing in the evening

until Wednesday when the kids arrived.  We had so much fun...even when it rained

...this is the first time the kids have joined me at the beach, Josh spent every summer there until he was probably 18 or so...he was thrilled to share it with his children and will probably make it an annual vacation...that makes me very happy.  We all came home together on Saturday and spent some great time together...the kids were thrilled to spend time in the pool

...Sunday they went out to Disney and really had a great time and then headed back home on Tuesday...they had a very hard time saying good-bye to Howie...
We went into cleaning over drive...bathrooms, laundry, sheets and towels, and were done pretty quickly...quickly enough that I got to sew a few stitches that afternoon.

So you're all caught up, whether you wanted to be or not...LOL!  I'm here sewing and cleaning and yes doing a bit more destashing...I think I may be back this week with some goodies.  I have a bunch of wool that I would really like to get rid of.  Happy weekend everyone!

Earlier Than I Thought

Oh my goodness, the morning started out just a wee bit crazy...I woke up, looked at the clock and was certain that it said 5:10...but it was odd, Andy was still in bed...that NEVER happens...he's up and out of bed every morning not a minute later than 4:30, and usually earlier.  I didn't give it another thought, went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and in the meantime he got up, started the coffee and didn't even realize I was out of bed.  I came out looking for my coffee and he looked at me like I was nuts...I couldn't figure out what in the world was wrong...then he said, "Up a little early?"  My response, "Well a few minutes"...he then pointed to the clock...by this time it was not quite 4:20...Lesson learned...no major decisions, like getting out of bed, will ever be made again without my glasses!

But getting up early I did get to meat a night visitor to our back deck/porch...

I think he wanted to come in and have coffee this morning.  Love the little suction things on the end of his toes!

I also got out early for a short ride on Miss Pink...it was a beautiful morning and I had a lot of think time...I feel another post coming along...life related...oh I love when I open my ears...such clarity comes...I'll be back to share my insight from this morning.

I'll close for now with a little top I finished from a Primitive Gatherings club...I'm really enjoying this...a sweet friend gifted this to me for Christmas last year...it's the gift that keeps on giving...very, very fun...thank you sweet friend...I think of you often but especially when I work on these little cuties...

This and That and Maybe a Little Something Else....

I'll bet you're scratching your heads, saying "What in the world is she talking about today?  She's for weeks and weeks and then twice in one week...."  Well I had lots of questions about the 2 baby quilts...requests for pattern sources and pictures of the whole quilts...so here you go...

This is the quilt for my friend...The pattern name is Candy Shoppe Quilt by the Clothe Parcel...I think I originally saw it on Pinterest and then just Googled it...came as a PDF pattern...love that...instant gratification.  The other one...

the one for the baby is my creation...easy peasy...lots of 2" squares for the 16 patches and then more 2" squares for the 4 patches...the white strips around the 4 patches are cute 2"X3-1/2" and 2"X6-1/2"...set on point so you need setting triangles and corner triangles...I cut 9-3/4" squares and cut those twice for the side setting triangles and 5-1/4" for the corner triangles...those are both a bit overcut but I prefer to do that, add them to the quilt and then cut them down.  Make as many blocks as you want to make it the size you want...remember the formula for how big the blocks measure when on point is finished size (which is 6") X 1.414...that's exactly what I did to determine how many I needed to make.  This is a really easy, fun quilt to do...great way to use up tons of scraps...make as many blocks as you want and when you're done, you're done...FUN!

Those of you that have read my blog for a while know that I am the queen of steam...love that steam in my iron...well, look at the setting I've been using for some blocks...

yes your eyes are not deceiving you...NO steam!  I know I am still not believing it, but in this case it made the biggest difference in these blocks.  The blocks are from the Penny Candy pattern by Primitive Gatherings...the strips are cut 1-1/4"...lots of seams in these blocks...I've been having problems with them getting a little wonky so I thought I would give this a whirl and it worked...

dry iron, spray them with Magic Sizing and press...oh my goodness they came out sooooooooooooooooooo much better.  Now don't get me wrong, big blocks I'll be back to my steam...but these little blocks I'll be no steam until the very end when the block is done...

give it a good steam press...Can you tell I'm a happy girl?

And I just have to share this new cute girl that came to live at my house...

I saw her on Nicole's Facebook page (Raggedy Old Annie's) and it was love at first sight...I commented "I NEED her"...a few days later she was on my kitchen table...her dress with all those dogs on it and the dog tag in her hand...Yup, she needed to live at my house!  Thank you Nicole!

I think I've remembered to tell you everything...Have a great rest of the week and a fabulous weekend!

Fun Weekend

It's Monday already...I don't even work anymore and the weekends fly by...it sure was a fun one.  Mr. Brown Quilts and I went up to the bike shop on Saturday morning to buy me my very own bike.  No more trying out the neighbor's...I'm in and I'm loving every minute.  They didn't have the color I wanted so I had to wait until yesterday to pick it up...it was worth the wait.

Howie has already asked if he can ride in the basket...he has some body image issues, he has no clue that he's a bit to big...by about 80 pounds...LOL!

I was doing a little gardenia trimming on Saturday morning before we headed up to the bike shop and this sweet lady came flying in...

the kids think of my mom every time they see a ladybug...one seems to appear at every major event and mom promised them that she wouldn't miss a thing...hmmm!  Well after she flew in she crawled up on to the gardenia blossom...

which just happened to be mom's very favorite flower...hmmm again!  She stayed a long time...long enough for me to take several pictures

and to finish all my trimming.  As soon as I finished she flew away...Hmmm!

Back in February I showed you the beginning of this baby quilt for my friend's daughter...

I finished the binding yesterday so I'm all ready for Cooper to arrive...he's due July 6th...I can't believe I'm ahead for a change.  I also finished the quilt for my friend...

this is her first grand baby and as I say, every grandma needs a quilt at her house.  These quilts were so much fun to do...several of my friends shared their 30's stashes with me so I had tons of variety.  There were lots and lots of pieces of fabric cut for these 2 quilts and I can honestly say that there were many of these fabrics that I had never seen in my life...thanks girls...it sure was fun and you all helped make these really special!

That was our weekend...Happy week everyone!

Where Have I Been?

I've been all over the place....

To Birmingham for a quick trip to see these fun kids...

She certainly kept Grandy busy!

To Pennsylvania for an event at Andy's alma mater...we were there the beginning of May and the morning we were heading to the airport to come home there was frost on the windshield...a lot of frost...and for this Florida girl that only wears Flip Flops from mid April on, my toes were freezing.

Cleaning and organizing and getting rid of stuff...seems like I do this all the time...

Working in the yard...

Finishing up some very "aged" projects...

and some very recent projects...this picture isn't the best,

just as I got it all straight and headed back upstairs to take the picture, Howie decided he needed to walk across it and inspect...so go the wrinkles...

Going to Pilates, working out with a trainer twice a week and riding the bicycle 4 mornings a week...I've been trying out a neighbor's bike and I really like it, so we'll be going to buy my very own...I can't wait...I LOVE it!  I truly am in better shape now at 62 than I have been in most of my adult life...it feels great!

And........I've been on Instagram...yes I have...Oh it is so quick and easy...But the heat is upon us so I'll be back right HERE!

Spring Has Sprung

...here in Florida, I'm going out on a limb to say...Spring is here...I absolutely love this time of year...everything is so green...all the trees and bushes are the prettiest shade of green...and the azaleas are all popping out...

makes me very happy.

I've been binding away...I am almost embarrassed to say I have 14 quilts that were all quilted last year that are in need of binding...now they are not all what most people would call "quilts"...many of them are minis so that makes the binding process a little quicker.  This one was from a basket sew along with Temecula Quilt Company...

I flipped over those baskets and became obsessed...I absolutely loved making those little bits.  And then I had this fabric for from Marcus Brothers Dressing Gowns 2 group for the setting blocks, binding and backing...Spring Perfection!  Here it is in it's new home, with some of my very favorite people in the world.

Little Bow Tie Love

I've been working on bow ties for months... I do 25 a month and put them in my box ...well,

Sunday after I finished my 25 I decided to make a block...it was love at first sight...

I can't wait to sew more together.

I don't have a plan right now for how big it's going to be...as long as I'm having fun I'll keep making little (2" finished) bow ties...Hope you are doing something that brings you enjoyment!

Civil War Miniatures

I've been sewing...here are the first 4 blocks of the BOM from Temecula Quilt Company...Civil War Miniatures...
These 4 inch blocks are really fun to do...I saw this quilt when I was at Temecula Quilt Company back in January...Sheryl had finished piecing it but it wasn't quilted yet...I fell in love with it the second she laid it on the bed...the sashing is out of this world...Thank you so much Sheryl for another amazing quilt!

I haven't just been sewing...I've been sorting, and destashing...check out brownquiltsandmore.blogspot.com for some treasures that need a new home.

You are Here

I was here...

But that was over a month ago..  I've gotten emails and notes asking where in the world I've been...some have sent out all points bulletins looking for me...I've been right here...

and having lots of fun.  I truly have been spending lots less time on the computer...I was wasting a crazy amount of time on the computer, playing games, dang Candy Crush and Words with Friends...I have given it up...NO MORE GAMES!  So because of less computer time I've been stitching and started cross stitching again and I'm loving every minute of it.  I've been working on this block of Winter Wonderland for several months...

amazing lots less computer time and this one is done...ready for another block.

I've also been piecing away...You may remember back in July I started putting the Country Threads Anniversary quilt together...I had it all cut out and broke it up into sections...I just finished piecing it this past weekend...and I am beyond thrilled...

this pic isn't the best...I promise those green stars in the border aren't that bright...they are a beautiful reproduction green...I have no clue!  Now I need to make a back and off to the quilter...I'll share it again when it's bound and washed.

I'm also working on 2 baby quilts...a dear, dear friend's daughter is having her first baby in July...we have been friends for close to 30 years and I knew Anna before she was born so of course she must have a quilt...and my dear friend needs a Grandma quilt.  I wanted to do 30's and I wanted them to be very, very scrappy...so I sent out a plea to some friends for their small leftover pieces of 30's fabrics...I got the most wonderful packages...here is the beginning of the first one...
I'll be back with the beginning of the second one.

I've also been doing some cleaning and purging again

and will take pictures and have this all on my other blog in a day or so.  There are some treasures in this bin!

I will be back!  Hopefully I won't be gone so long...
