Greetings from Frigid, Frozen Florida

I know, I know...I can hear you laughing...I can sense you rolling on the floor...but...this is what we woke up to this morning. We had the heaviest, thickest, longest lasting frost that we've had in years. Our sprinklers had come on and within a few minutes this ice had formed...OMG I was so excited...I had to run and get the camera...
this just doesn't happen here...
And it was dang cold this morning when we walked the boys at 6:30...unfortunately I don't have any warm outerwear anymore...the boys weren't real thrilled about the crunching, cold grass this morning either. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder...

I am originally from Jacksonville, FL and I remember what it was like to have a heavy, cold freeze. It's better than heavy snow......

Have a good week!

Oh brrrrrrr--just looking makes me cold. I hope you don't lose too many plants. That happened here a few years back, it was sad. You'll actually get to use your fireplace some more...perfect reading and sewing weather :)

and here I was thrilled that it got to 21 degrees in Wisconsin. A heat wave for us!

It's tough on those not equipped for it.... I think they need to skip the walk for a day----

I was watching the Weather Channel and saw the report of the cold dipping down into the southern states. I hope the citrus crop isn't ruined this year by the freeze. Sending you some 'warm wishes'.

I can sure appreciate your enthusiasm . . . . I'd be out there taking pictures and crunching in the grass, too *s*

I understand (sort of)! It's the same for us here in the Pacific NW, except we get excited when it snows, it's something we don't see too often in the Portland area. Except for this year. We had enough snow at Christmas to last a lifetime! I'm glad you're enjoying your frost.

hat's so weird, we've been cold and today and tomorrow are warmer...57 or so before it goes back down to 35!

You wouldn't have found me out taking pictures of the frost. We were comfy under the covers in bed. I am glad our temperatures are warming up again.

Crunchy cold grass sounds so strange when you step on it so I can understand why your boys didn't like walking on it. Hopefully it'll warm up soon.
Here it's a cool -10F (not including the wind chill) but yesterday it was 18F. Sure beats the -58 F with the windchill we had last Wed the 14th.

Carol, I'm sending you an email right now :^)

Well.......Jeff wants me to tell you that HE is laughing....but that in Oregon orchards and vineyards will turn on their sprinklers to protect their crops if there is a late spring frost....the ice helps protect them against the frigid temps! If that makes any sense!!! It was 80 while we were in CA!! Hope you warm up soon!!!

We've been in a deep freeze here for longer than I can ever remember. The first thing I thought of when you said the sprinklers were on was "that's too funny, to be watering when it's so cold, we only water 2 months of the year". I hope it warms up for you.

Oh my gosh that is too funny to me - we have still got piles of snow taller than me around here!

I imagine that was exciting considering the weather there is fairly warm! Enjoy it but stay warm!

Haha Carol -- sorry to laugh, but I can't help it. Remember, I'm laughing with you! I hope you have a fireplace for that one time a year that you need it LOL!

I'll never forget my spring break trip to the Florida panhandle when I was really young (I think it was in the late 70s) and it snowed! I couldn't believe it. I remember walking on a frozen beach with my great-grandpa looking for seashells. Hopefully the cold won't last too long.

Hope the plant freeze isn't going to be a huge issue. It's -12F here right now...everything is frozen SOLID!

I used to live in Panama City, Fl and it got down to 16* and froze our well and it burst. UGH!! so I know it can get cold down there.

So - does this mean the citrus growers are out lighting their fires or smoke pots or whatever they are to save their crops? Or is this not the time of year that the crops might freeze. I know - my question sure shows my ignorance when it comes to citrus fruit! I imagine your dogs don't have coats as warm as northern dogs either - no need for them usually!

I like the start to the baby quilt.

I heard it was really cold down there. My friend was at Lynda Halls this morning (she lives here but has a home down there) and she said you have had lots of cold and frost.
