New Book in the Mail

Look what came to my mailbox today...I really liked their first book Jelly Roll Quilts so when I saw this one I thought I must need it. I really like it a lot. There are at least 4 quilts in it that I want to do. I may not do them with pre-cuts but they sure can be made out of anything...great scrappy quilts.

We're heading to Birmingham on Friday for Camden's christening on Sunday. Mom's going with us and she is soooooooooooo excited. She'll be meeting Little Miss for the first time and of course getting some Hampton time. I promise to take pictures! We'll be back Monday night...I'll be here on Tuesday! Have a great week!

First Block Done

I didn't get much done today but I did get the first block done of the 2009 Designer BOM done. Oh I'm going to LOVE this quilt...the fabric is gorgeous and is a dream to work with.

We went to the hospital today and visited our friend and delivered the quilt...she loved it. She looks great, she has a long, long way to go, but is determined to get there. Her biggest hurdle is to get her speech back. Please keep her in your thoughts.

I posted some new books on Brown Quilts and More...there are some really good ones...

A New BOM, A Cut-A-Thon, A Label

Our UPS guy is always here by 2...no sign of him...I knew my package from The Fat Quarter Shop was due...7 p.m. the truck pulls up across the street...delivers...2 substitute UPS people in the truck...gal driving, guy delivering. He jumps back in the truck and take off...I'm standing in the front window about to cry...next thing I know the dogs are barking like crazy...the gal comes running up on the porch and tosses my package...YIPPEE! it's here. And off she runs to get back to the truck which is stopped 3 houses down the street. I couldn't believe anyone would be running...it was still 93 degrees at 7 p.m. So here's the wonderful new Designer BOM using the Glace fabric...I'm telling you, this is some pretty stuff. I got the finishing kit too and it is gorgeous...this is going to be one awesome quilt. I couldn't resist...I had a dozen other things that I should have been doing, but I cut this month's block out when I was cutting up a storm today. Hmmm, maybe I'll keep up with this one this year too.

I was cutting up a storm today...I like to cut a bunch and then sit and sew...this is pretty scrappy and I wanted to keep the blocks organized...so since I had a bunch of clothes pins out in the garage...not sure why I saved them since our homeowner's association doesn't allow us to hang clothes out...I put them to good use. Each clothes pin has all the pieces for 1 block. I'm getting organized in my old age...LOL!

We're going to see our friend tomorrow and deliver her quilt. We got really good news...even though the tumor was the size of a baseball the pathology report came back benign. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. She's not out of the woods yet...there was some damage done to her brain getting the tumor out, but they are all very confident with lots of rehab she'll be back...her speech was the most affected, and she has a good bit of work to do on fine motor skills and her balance but she's strong and has lots of great support. Well, when Andy said this morning that he wanted to go see her tomorrow because they don't do as much therapy on the weekend so her day is more free, I said I can't go unless I get a label on the quilt. He said that he'd been thinking about the label a lot. I left for an hour to walk and came home and he announced that he had the wording done. I got it on fabric, but a border on it and I'm stitching it down tonight. I just have to share with you his wonderful message...
That says it all...my man is a sweetie!

Spice Cake

A very big thank you to Nicole for getting me hooked on this quilt. It was tons of fun to do...Spice Cake pattern by Mary's Cottage Quilts and the fabric is Hopscotch by Chloe's Closet and MODA. Thank you Nicole...you were my inspiration!

I had my trusty quilt holder, AKA DH Andy, standing on the front porch holding up this quilt. It's really pretty big, so I asked him to stand on his tip toes, which is not so easy for him...he has a very bad knee that is going to be replaced in September...He did just what I wanted him to do so I said, "You're just wonderful"...he thought I was done when I said that and started to fold it up...
I told him I was going to have to fire him as the official quilt holder in our house...he seemed to like that idea way too much...so I quickly told him I was just kidding.

Nicole also mentioned the other day on her blog, how nice it is to be a quilter and to have quilts waiting for an owner. I had made this just because I loved it when I saw it and didn't have a plan for it. Well, last week we got an e-mail from a gal that Andy used to work with, telling us that another gal that he worked with had found out on Wednesday after an MRI that she had a large tumor in the frontal lobe of her brain...Thursday to the neurosurgeon...surgery on Monday. She's doing well, the surgeon is confident that he got it all, he expressed that he felt it was a benign tumor, they'll get the report tomorrow. She has a long road ahead of her, lots of therapy...so this quilt is going to her. It's full of hugs and good thoughts...I love being a quilter!

Gettin' Some Things Done

Oh and that makes me so very happy...I love to get things done. I made my list and spent some afternoons cutting and sewing up a storm. It's been so darn hot here that I've kept myself tucked nicely inside my house, in my sewing room with the air conditioner doing it's job. I can sure get a lot done in this weather...sure don't want to be outside.

I finished this little quilt in just a couple of days...it was so fun. It came as a kit from The Temecula Quilt Company out in California. Sheryl (the shop owner) had this on her blog, I fell in love. I e-mailed her to see if I could get one of my very own. She e-mailed me back and within a few days it had arrived. Great customer service...nothing better than great customer service. Make sure you go by her blog and see all of the wonderful things she has to share. OMG, if I lived closer to her shop, I'd probably be in debtor's prison.

I also finished this month's Simply Sophisticated blocks...we're getting close to the end of this one. I can hardly wait to see what The Fat Quarter Shop has in store for us when it comes time to put this quilt together. This is going to be one gorgeous quilt.

Hope everyone had a great weekend...I sure did...and hope you all have a wonderful week!

A Dog's Life

The boys were exhausted and taking a little rest......until the camera clicked...and as you can see from the blur, Zack was getting up and ready to run...poor Howie, just wanted to rest some more.

They were so tired from helping me put the finishing touches on this quilt that will be going to our Hospice of the Comforter on Friday. I showed this back in December when it came back the the quilter...then it had to wait it's turn for binding...the coordinator of the fund raising event said that if they could get the quilt in June they would be thrilled...the event is in August...with lots of help from the boys the binding is on and I got the label on yesterday...we'll deliver it Friday. I just love this quilt...the fabric is so pretty, MODA Quilt for the Cause, the quilting is amazing...just makes the quilt sing.

OK boys, no more cameras...you can resume your rest!

Where Did May Go? Can You Tell Me?

Where oh where did May go? I've heard several people say the same thing...I don't think I've ever experienced anything like this one. I've had months go quickly, but I think this one was missing at least 2 weeks. I guess with my weeklong trip to Birmingham, and then Andy's trip to Key West with some friends, and then having the herd here for 10 days while the "visiting dogs" mom and dad took an Alaskan cruise...the month just got away. I sure hope things slow down a bit...I have lots I want to do.

I did get a few things done...I showed this one as I was working on it, but it's all done and on it's way to a new baby girl in South Carolina.

Here are 2 months of Belle Meade
...BOM from Homestead Hearth, pattern from Bonnie Blue Quilts. I am just loving these blocks. When I opened this month's fabrics I thought, "Yikes, some of these fabrics, I'm just not sure" But I stuck with them, didn't substitute anything and I love the result. I'm convinced that reproduction just work together.

I have a new favorite tool...
...Triangle Square Up. I've had this "ruler" for several years and have just never used it...I saw it the other day and decided I'd read the directions and try it out. I love it! I used to use the Precision Trimmer all the time...here's the difference...with the Precision Trimmer you pressed the HST open and then trimmed all the sides...4 cuts...well, this tool...you pick the line that matches with your cut size (not finished size)...lay the dotted line on the stitching and trim 2 sides...I love it. They came out perfect and half the cutting! YIPPEE!

My friend Jeanne taught me this new trick...another time saver...makes the sewing of the HST go so much faster. If you have a 1/4" foot (with a 1/4" on each side of the foot,
this is my Bernina 37 foot) feed the HST with the long side on the left and then the next one have the long side on the right...just keep feeding them through alternating. It takes a few going through to get used to using that left side of the foot as a guide, but as soon as you get used to it, you can fly. They just go through smoother and faster.

That's it for me today. I have to go get ready for Game 1 of the NBA finals...my Magic are playing! Have a great evening!
