It's Going to be a Great Day

It's Saturday and it's going to be great. First, yes I finished the shop newsletter on Thursday...most of it was done on Wednesday, just had to add one little bit on Thursday. Andy's going to take it to the printer for me today so it will be done by Monday and can go in the mail before I go to Chicago...YIPPEE! Off my plate, checkmark on my list! Yesterday was wonderful...Sue and I took the day off from the shop and took a class with Jo Morton and our guild. It was a wonderful day...worked on Strippy Stars...she showed us making stars from flying geese and flying geese from 5 squares of fabric. They came out perfect and no waste. She even shared the math with us so we can do it any time we want. You all probably already know the math but I was thrilled. I've done flying geese with Mary Ellen Hopkins technique with the connector sqares, there's waste and mine didn't always come out right; I've done them the old way with just a quarter square triangle and 2 half squares, usually pretty accurate unless my seam is off a bit or my pressing is out of whack...these came out perfect. I'll share if anyone is interested.
Well, today we're going back to class with Jo and doing applique. I am so excited, sitting with Jo Morton and appliqueing all day...a little piece of heaven.
I better get moving...we must walk the boys and then Andy and I have to do our walk and I have to be out of here by 8. I'll be back with more...

I'd be very interested in seeing your way of doing Flying Geese. I love how many ways you can use them but I dislike making them.

Yes, please share your new method of making flying geese. I've always wanted to make a flying geese quilt but have never found a method to make them come out close to perfect!

Me, too *s* I have pretty good results with the other two methods but a new way is always good to know.

Me too, me too! LOL Please share with us! (My goodness, girl, you do get an early start to your days, don't you? Could you also share some of your energy with those of us who really really need it??? LOL)

Jo is a dear isn't she. I spent two days in class with her in 2001 and loved every minute of it. Both her fabrics and her patterns are the best. I can't seem to get my flying geese to turn out perfectly when I do them her way. They are always just a bit too small, so I have to take 1/8" seams instead of 1/4" seams. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong - maybe I'm cutting the squares a bit skimpy. I tried using a slightly narrower SA and still they weren't perfect. I'm still experimenting. In the meantime I did the ones for Sophie's quilt the old fashioned way with half and quarter square triangles.

sounds like a great weekend - I have the same procrastination problem with the newsletter I write each month - you would think I would learn to write when the mood strikes instead of waiting.
any pictures of your class with Jo Morton?

Thanks for dropping by my BLOG, which incidentally, contained the latest post of a lotta BROWN! 8-)

I'm adding you to my BLOGlines - can't wait to see what you're doing.

Yep, those newsletters are a drain -- I do two of them, (one for work, one for Quilt Guild. But I LOVE it when they are done.

Hi Carol, Welcome to our Stash blog ring. I am really envious that you are taking a class with Jo Morton. I was out of town when she taught here a yr or so ago. I believe I know the FG method you speak of. It is nifty. I also like using the paper method from the Triangles on a Roll ladies for long rows of FG. Take care!

Welcome to the ring. I haven't got to make the rounds in the last couple of weeks. Trying to make my way around today, between loads of laundry (YUK - I'd rather be stitching!).
