Oh What a Day...

Sounds like a song...no that was Oh what a night...I must be showing my age. Well, this was quite a day. Not only is today my Very First Blogiversary...it is the day that I told my customers that I am retiring. The shop will close on August 22.
First I want to thank all of you who read my blog and comment how much I enjoy hearing from you. You all have become a very special part of my life. I have made some wonderful friends here in blogland and am very thankful each day. So as many before me have done...I am going to have a prize package for a lucky winner of my Comment drawing...leave a comment between now and Friday evening and I will have my trusty assistant Andy draw a name out of the hat. I look forward to another fun year of blogging and now that I won't be working any more and will have time to sew, sew, sew....I'll have lots more to blog about.
We knew that we were making the right decision about closing the shop and spending retirement together...even though Andy will still be doing his consulting work, and traveling...it was confirmed this evening when I got an e-mail from a gal whose husband had recently retired and went to play golf, had a massive heart attack on the golf course and died right there. She wrote to me and said that this was the best decision I could make...spend time with them while you have them...you just never know what will happen. That just confirmed it. I'm looking forward to spending time with Andy and I'm looking forward to spending LOTS of time in my sewing room...so ladies, you'll be hearing lots more from me.
Again, thank you for a wonderful year. You've taught me more than you'll ever know...here's to another year.
Send in those comments...

Good for you! You're absolutely right - a career is not real life, and the time we get isn't getting longer. Coongratulations!

I bet Andy will be happy to have you home since he was at loose ends while you were away--as you said, more so since he retired from full time work. More time to travel and see that cutie grandson too!

Happy blog anniversary and congratulations on your retirement. If you are like my mum, you won´t have much more time to relax (quilt groups, garden, gran-children, renovating, etc...)How come that so many pensionners have such a busy schedule?! Still I wish you lot of good time with your DH. Take care.

Congrats on your retirement. It's a wonderful time of life and I'm sure you will enjoy but expect to be very busy. Most days I say "how did I manage to get all this done when I was working."
Enjoy and keep on sharing with us in your blog. Maggie

I'm really excited for you and Andy! You will have alot of together time and yet you'll be able to enjoy spending time with you! You know my DH retired a little over a year ago and this is the primary reason I am self employed. I have a very flexible schedule and can "go" with a little notice.

Sometimes, it's too much together time - I crave "alone time" but he gives me my space, too.

Wishing you a Happy blog anniversary and congratulations on your retirement! I'm disabled and my DH is due to retire in 2 years, but already we are having so much fun planning and talking about how our lives will change. You've made a good choice and although I'm sure your customers will miss you dearly, it's time for YOU!!! Best wishes!

How wonderful you are retiring! My husband always says it is the quality and not the quantity of your life that matters. I certainly think you have made the correct choice - now you have time for yourself AND your man. Nothing better than that!
Congrats again on the Blogiversary!

Congrats on one year! and on deciding to retire although having all that fabric at your fingertips is tempting. Good to spend time while you have it!

the charity quilt looks fabulous! and the blocks look even better in person! Thanks!

I know your customers will miss you. Too bad someone couldn't buy the store and keep it open - but you'll have plenty of supplies left, I suspect. =)

That's exactly why Paul and I retired early. Guy across the street waited, they had all kinds of plans, and he found out almost immediately that he was ill. He died about 6 months into retirement and was sick the whole time.

I seem to be late with my "happy blog-anniversary" for almost everyone! I'm so far behind I have over 3500 posts to read. I think there are at least 20-25 new posts on your blog alone since I last had time to read.

So here I am - wishing you another such successful year blogging, and offering my toast to you my internet quilty friend. You always say such nice things about my posts. Hearing that you are closing the shop was such a surprise - you seemed to be so wrapped up in it - but very understandable. The older we get the more we realize the importance of spending time with the most important people in our lives. May you have many, many years ahead of you to enjoy each others company.

And of course we'll be looking forward to hearing more from you now, and seeing more of your quilting!
