This, That and a Few Other Things

I was chatting with Tammy yesterday and she asked if I was getting reaqquainted with my sewing machine. Well, I'm very happy to say that finally yesterday we got back together...oh happy day. I finished the last of the pillowcases that I promised my friend Jami I'd do for her...she set a goal early this year to make 300 pillowcases for the wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. I saw Jami on Wednesday and she had 320 pillowcases...she met her goal and 20 more, but I told her I had five prepped and ready to sew, so she would have to take 325 with her.
Since she had met her goal earlier than she thought, she and her "bee" group decided to do some quilts for her to take. She's close to 20 and still sewing. WOW! She and her husband are driving up to Washington D.C. in September to make the delivery. When a quilter gets an idea...sets a goal...look out...nothing's going to stop her!

Well, I've worked all week at dropping a bit of the cruise weight gain...back to the gym, walking on all the other days and watching my eating...I sad to say I've lost 1/2 a pound...that's it! So Monday (that would be tomorrow) I'm going back on South Beach...I've done it twice before and was very successful...thankfully I don't have as much to lose so it should be just fine. I don't get it...it goes on exponentially and comes off incrementally...it's just not fair.

We have a tropical storm brewing south of us...supposed to come our way Tuesday...the good news about these things is that we can prepare...we'll be bringing in the pool furniture and the potted plants around the pool and then we should be just fine. Don't want that stuff blowing in the pool. I'm thinking we'll probably get some wind and a lot of rain...that's what I'm hoping anyway...don't want this storm to intensify! I told Andy this morning that I feel like I'm slacking here...the last time we had these darn storms I had the shop and that was always a worry. Covering the fabric with plastic, in case the flat roof on the shopping center didn't hold all the accumulated rain...boarding up the windows, in case something went flying through the air and into the windows...no more worries. You know I've said it a thousand times before...Life is GOOD! Hope everyone in the path of Tropical Storm Fay stays safe! Take care!

I can't believe I'm the first to post!! This is a very special day! LOL
I think what your friend is doing is wonderful, and the pillowcases you made are lovely.
I'm glad you and Andy are taking care of things for the coming storm - I'm hoping you'll be okay.
By the way, you look very trim to me, missy!!

Carol I love your pillowcases but I love more that you care enough to make them. And that Tammy cared enough to start the whole thing. We can sit back and be comfortable or we can step out in courage. Thank you for taking that step. blessings, marlene

Well seeing that my Mom's name is FAY (no E) if it's anything like her, it will hit then whip around and come back again to hit again. Mom is a feisty one!

Cool pillowcases...I bought fabric to make 2 and forgot all about it..now where did I put that fabric?

How wonderful that your pillowcases are making their way to Walter Reed. Also terrific that there's time left on the 'goal' to make some quilts - those are going to be some very happy guys and gals.
Glad you are getting some quality time at your machine - just be sure to keep a watchful eye on that storm and be safe.

Please say another thank you to your friend for the generosity of her bee group and then to deliver them personally to our injured servicemen and women in the Armed Forces. We are now retired from military....and still have many friends active and constantly deploying. Unfortunately not all return or if they do...it is nice to have a small bit of comfort in knowing we fellow Americans care! God Bless America

I am in South Carolina and have been watching the weather on the path of Fay. Hope all goes well your way. We could sure use the rain, but not the winds!

Very nice pillowcases for a wonderful cause.

Love the coordinated fabrics in the pillow cases. What a thoughtful gift for the soldiers. You're welcome to hide out here from the storm. It's bound to be cooler!

I was wondering if you were going to be affected by the brewing storm. Take care!

The pillow cases are great! Like I've said before quilters know how to pick up the pieces and put them back together. I'm sure the soldiers will really appreciate them.
